Ms. Judy Hermsen - Room 13
Welcome to First Grade in Room 13 at St. Vincent de Paul School. This is my 16th year teaching at St. Vincent de Paul School. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1976. I received my Master of Science degree in Reading at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1993. I previously taught grades K-4 in Bruno, NE, first grade at St. Joan of Arc, and first and fourth grade at St. Bernard School.
Reading is a major skill developed in first grade. I'll work to help your child become a lifelong reader building a love for reading. In math students learn number sense, addition and subtraction facts to 18 as well as double digit addition and subtraction, telling time, and counting money. Working on independence in addtion to social and study skills are important parts of first grade. Most important of all is growing in our faith as we learn more about being children of God, not only during religion class but also in all we do. Mrs. Denise Johnston and Ms. Pam Botos are the teacher associates who will be working with the students in Room 13.
