Mrs. Zimmerman - Room 82

Welcome to Mrs. Zimmerman's 7th & 8th Grade social studies!

Week of April 6-10

7th graders:

Good evening-

Because it is Holy Week, we will be giving less homework.  I know you have been spending ample time with your families, but it is also a time to reflect on what we are thankful for, what's really important in our lives, and all Jesus does for us.

This week you will be learning about the countries of southern Europe-Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece.  Each of you will make a slide show over one of the countries in the chapter. I will assign you a country by your last name-see below.

Each slide show will have 6 slides-Title, Physical Features, History, Culture, Today, and a sources slide (sources in easy bib format).

The physical features, history, culture, and today slides should all have 2 pictures and 5 facts.

Slide show is due Wednesday by 9:00 p.m.

If your last name starts with:

A-F, you'll do Portugal

G-L, you'll do Spain

M-R, you'll do Italy

S-Z, you'll do Greece

We will be doing a Zoom session on Tuesday. (Zoom information will be sent Tuesday morning through your school email acct-make sure to check 10-15 minutes before your assigned classroom time. 71-starts at 10:00, 72-starts at 10:30, and 73-starts at 11:00)

Let me know if you have any questions. See you on Tuesday morning!

Mrs. Z.

8th graders:

Good evening-

Because it is Holy Week, we will be giving less homework.  I know you have been spending ample time with your families, but it is also a time to reflect on what we are thankful for, what's really important in our lives, and all Jesus does for us.

This week we will be focusing on the Great Depression. Ironically, our economy right now is being compared to the economy during the Great Depression.  If you watch/listen to the news, you will hear about the unemployment numbers, the stock market, etc… These were main topics of the Great Depression as well.

This week, you will create an illustrated timeline using on-line images.  Your timeline will be made on Google slides and you will turn it in to Google Classroom (GC). Your timeline should include 5 events that led to the Great Depression.  Your slideshow should have a title, 2-3 slides with the events, and a source slide (sources in easy bib format).  Events should be in chronological order. The selling of shares and/or the stock market crash will count as only one cause.  The "crash" took place on Oct. 29, 1929-no causes should have a date later than Oct. 29, 1929.  You'll find some causes on pp. 714-715 and more on pp. 716-718. There are more than 5 causes in the book-choose which ones you think were most important in causing the economic depression.  Slideshow is due Wednesday by 9:00 p.m.  If you have specific questions about the assignment, you can ask during the Zoom session tomorrow morning. (Zoom information will be sent Monday morning through your school email acct-make sure to check 10-15 minutes before your assigned classroom time. 81-starts at 10:00, 82-starts at 10:30, and 83-starts at 11:00)

As always, let me know if you have questions.

This is my 23rd year at St. Vincent de Paul.  In 1997, I was hired to teach 6th grade and the following year moved up to 8th grade. I love this age group!!

My husband, Randy, and I have been married for 22 years.  I have twin boys who will be sophomores at Skutt this year!!   I am originally from Earling, Iowa.  I attended Creighton University and graduated with a double major in Education and Psychology in 1997.  In 2003, I  earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Development. In May, 2018, I graduated with another Master's-in Educational Leadership.

Communication plays a very important role in the success of your child's school year.  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.  The best time to reach me during the day is from 8:45-9:15 or after school until 4:00 (402-492-2111).

Classroom Information and Links

The 8th graders study American history. They will have two major projects this year and will have first and second semester finals.  The 7th graders study world geography. They will be focusing on different regions of the world and specifically examine the cultural and geographical features of each region.  My grading policy: daily work accounts for 50% of the total grade and tests and quizzes account for 50% of the total grade.

The web site link for you or your child to access the on-line 7th grade textbook, World Geography, is https://www.hmhco.com/one/login/

Students received their usernames and passwords and should also have them written in their assignment notebooks.

The 8th grade American History textbook is also available on-line; click here.
